Household History

Discover the history behind your front door.

Through archival research and narrative storytelling, Household History uncovers the people, events, and moments that shaped the places we live.

Household History is a research and writing service that reconstructs the history of homes and properties through records, archives, and the lives of the people who lived there.

Each report is built from original sources—census records, newspapers, maps, deeds, and more—and shaped into a narrative that connects the past to the present. The result is not just a collection of facts, but a story.

About:

Household History is a research and writing company founded by historian and author Allie Seibert in 2021, dedicated to uncovering the histories of homes, properties, and the people who lived within them.

The work is rooted in a simple idea: every place has a past, whether it has been passed down or not.

That idea became personal when Seibert began researching her own historic home in downtown Fenton, Michigan. What started as curiosity quickly became something more—tracing the house from its early beginnings in the 1840s, through decades of change, reinvention, and the lives that unfolded within it. Through archival records, maps, and newspapers, the story gradually came into focus, revealing details that had long been forgotten.

That experience shaped the foundation of Household History.

The goal is not just to collect information, but to connect it—to piece together a history that feels complete, grounded, and human.

These histories often reveal more than expected. Some uncover long-forgotten details, while others bring clarity to stories that were only partially remembered. In many cases, they preserve pieces of local history that might otherwise have been lost entirely.

At its core, Household History is about recognizing that the places we live are not separate from the past. They are shaped by it. Every home has a history, whether it has been passed down or not. This work simply brings that history back into view.

Let's get started. Submit your information and I'll take it from there.
